Sea Shanties in Old Leigh
The Old Leigh Shanty Festival is a wonderful event giving the chance to here live music performed on various stages dotted around the historic old town.
The Shanty Festival is not run by the Folk Club, but we have a strong association with it.
The third Old Leigh Shanty Festival will take place over the weekend of 17/19 May 2024 with performances by many Shanty Crews as well as other folk artistes, dancers, mummers, pirates and bands.
The Festival is a community run event benefiting charities like RNLI and Endeavour Trust

Boxing day at the Billet -A Christmas tradition
For 50 years the Mummers play followed by the famous folk singaround has taken place on Boxing Day at the Crooked Billet pub in Leigh-on-Sea. 50 years seems a long time but communal singing of traditional songs in ale houses goes back over 600 years.

Boxing day at the Billet is not organised by the Hoy at Anchor Folk club, but is an event very much enjoyed by many members of the club.
It all starts about 12:30 with the Thameside mummers giving a traditional show outside the pub on Billet Wharf. After that it’s an afternoon celebrating the communal singing of unaccompanied traditional songs.
